Photoshop Self-Portraits

For this post, I will be fabricating two vastly different portraitures using Photoshop.

Warhol Portraiture

Final Andy Warhol inspired Portraiture, done in photoshop.

For this self-portrait, I took inspiration from Andy Warhol’s portraits and his use of colour to bring his art to life in a Pop Art style.
To my portrait, I added a red lip, darkened purple eyeshadow and a deep blue for the hair that blends into the background. Every colour has meaning.
The red lip and purple eyeshadow showcase womanhood, and the use of makeup for myself and other women. I see the use of makeup as a form of expression for oneself, helping you explore yourself. Sometimes, however, it’s used as a mask, an ugly aspect I try to avoid. The blue hair is attached to add coldness to the canvas to level out the tones. To fabricate a hand-drawn and sketchy look, I posterized the portrait and created a darker overall tone to highlight a sombre and solemn atmosphere whilst keeping my face coloured so I look more alive.

Romanticizing Portraiture

Final experimental portraiture, done in a feminine style. Done in photoshop.

I experimented with Photoshop in this self-portrait to create a colourful but grungy experience. The grunge style within the design is one of my favourites as I enjoy how it expresses our moodier feelings in an electrifying manner. I designed this with little plan, producing a more in-depth meaning and romanticizing how I see myself.
The mix of pink and purple promotes a playful and romantic atmosphere. I grew up hating girly things and anything pink or purple. More recently, I have become drawn to it, connecting back to my feminine side that I was never confident with growing up. making this piece have great meaning for me.
I feel the way the photograph was taken, accentuates the alluring ambience. The grunge style mixed with the lively and mysterious look, is an aspect I see myself in. Showing the viewer how I truly view myself.

Design Progress

My first attempt with Warhol-styled portraiture.
